Apple changes to avoid a Cambridge Analytica
Modify the rules of your App Store to prevent developers from "doing business" with user data
To adapt to the new European Data Protection Regulation or to avoid a Cambridge Analytica? To date, the developers could request and have access to the contacts' agenda of the users and do business with that information and without explicit consent.
However, as Bloomberg has revealed, a modification of App Store terms and conditions prevents app developers for the Cupertino giant's devices from "earning money" by selling contact data for users who download or purchase applications or services of Apple.
A modification of point 5.1.2 of the rules of use of the App Store specifies the prohibition of converting the contact agendas into a database that they can then sell to third parties, and they can not convert that user data collected into profiles of user.
A breach of the regulations entails the elimination of the app of the virtual store of the Cupertino giant and, even, the expulsion of the developer of the Apple Developer Program.
However, access to information will still be available to developers who want it, but they will have to explain to users exactly what they need it for.
