Facebook makes public private messages of 14 million users

The company, which does not know how it could happen, asks those affected to "check" the publications made between May 18 and 27

Once the Cambridge Analytica storm dried up, Facebook began to see the rainbow and the sun. However, another problem comes from Palo Alto (California, United States). Now, a problem in the privacy of the social network has uncovered 14 million private messages from thousands of Facebook users.

According to Facebook, the messages or publications that users thought they were sending privately to their friends or small groups have ended up becoming public without prior notice and without consent from those affected.

The software error of the social network occurred between May 18 and 27 and affected about 14 million users. "We apologize for this error," the company's privacy officer, Erin Egan, lamented in the announcement.

A problem in which the company has already begun to work and has communicated the incidence to the affected people to review their publications during these dates and check that their applications have not become public without knowing it.

"We have fixed the issue and as of today we are letting all those affected know and asking them to review their publications that they made during that period," Egan added.
