The OCU asks Facebook 200 euros per user for the Cambridge Analytica case
The organization will represent 26 million users in Spain
First it was the United States Congress, then the European Parliament and soon, it seems, the Spanish courts. This is, at least, the intention of the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), which has filed a complaint against Facebook on behalf of all Spanish users for the improper use of their data. Complaint motivated by the Cambridge Analytica scandal that affected 87 million in the United States alone.
However, according to data from the social network in Spain, data leakage reached approximately 136,985 Spaniards . Facebook has breached the Data Protection Law by not having informed or requested express authorization to users for the use of their data, explains the consumer organization, which will not restrict the scope of the demand to users affected by the scandal of Cambridge Analytica, but will extend it to all users of the application .
The OCU has also announced that it will claim "at least 200 euros of compensation" for each account holder "for the improper use of their data". A figure that the platform that defends the rights of consumers has calculated "taking into account the commercial benefits that Facebook has obtained with the data of its users," although qualifies that "it will be the Administration of Justice which, ultimately, will have to assess the damage and the final amount of compensation .
The organization has launched the campaign www.misdatossonmios.org so that "the 26 million users" of Facebook in Spain can be informed about the progress of this action and requests the support of consumers "to prevent companies from continuing to have access to your data without your consent and use it for your own benefit .
